A small representative selection of Ebonite (Hard Rubber) Mouthpieces stocked for Soprano, Alto, Tenor & Baritone Saxes in many different Tip Openings.

  

It is a fact that Mouthpieces will contribute or detract around 70% of the Sound/Tone of the Sax. The actual material, metal or Ebonite (Hard rubber) does not effect the sound as much as myth dictates.

There are basically two types of Mouthpieces: a) Straight through chamber or b) chamber with built in baffle & infinite variations on these themes.

 

It is most important to try/blow mouthpieces do NOT buy from mil order because a friend/tutor or your hero plays one. You may need a different make, tip opening etc. as your mouth is different & although Pros. Play 7 days a week & you may just play occasionally.

 

Allegro does NOT send mouthpieces or SOR basis. We sell NEW items & when mouthpieces are sent out they can be damaged plus health hazards in this age.

 

However, you try in the Shop & we will give advice ref reed strengths to match for optimum results.

Beware of mouthpiece 'Doctors' who for a large sum of money will ruin a perfectly good mouthpiece. Buy the correct mouthpiece in the first place.

 

We now list our STOCKED mouthpieces. (Subject to Manufacturers availability). The descriptions/comments are ours gathered from over 50 years of commercial playing experience.

BERG LARSEN

Although originally made in the United Kingdom Berg Larsen have now moved to Europe. Manufactured in Ebonite & Metal. They have a distinctive baffle in the chamber which projects the sound. For interest we have "Tubbys" last Tenor mouthpiece which was a Larsen Ebonite "140".in our opinion the Stainless Tenor is a super flexible mouthpiece which copes with everything including Altisimo range. Different tone chambers: 0 = very bright to 3 = mellow.
