At Taylor
Trumpets we recognise that not all trumpet players have the resources
to afford a top price professional instrument. Enter the Rio Models.
The Taylor sound and playability at a more attractive price.
The Rio is available two variations, the .460” (ML bore) Rio and
the .468” (L bore) Rio Grande. It uses a hand made red brass bell
similar to those found on our top line trumpets. The Rio Models also
share the same hand drawn mouthpipes that were used on the previous
London Model trumpets.
All Rio Model trumpets are finished in pale gold lacquer over a polished
body and a brush finish bell. Each Rio trumpet comes with a silver-plated
3c equivalent mouthpiece and a durable gig-bag.
To make the Rio Models we have sourced the valve sections and slide
assemblies from a mainstream instrument maker. This has been the major
contribution to keeping the manufacturing cost down; and we can pass
the saving on to the customer.
So, how does it play?
The Rio Models have a familiar feel about them. They have a very quick
adjustment period, instantly usable, and very versatile. The sound has
a lot in common with the top line Taylor trumpets. It’s a big,
dark sound, but with a bit more edge, enough to cut it in a section
when you need to. It is a powerful instrument with a wide dynamic range.
If you can only have one trumpet, and you need to be versatile, then
the Rio has a lot in its favour.
The Rio
does not compete against the Chicago Models, with their quality feel
and superior temperament, but it can more than hold its own against
any mainstream competition. The Rio is not a cheap Taylor Trumpet; it
is a well made, versatile instrument at a more attractive price.
